If you have not already heard about the Follow the Trail Giveaway that many upper grades teacher bloggers have put together, you must check it out.  Each blogger has swapped a product with another blogger, tested the product in their classroom, and has written a review of the product.  You can "hike around the trail" and see some amazing products as well as enter the giveaway.  I will set you up with the first blogger I started with on this hike.  Click her button below to get started!

Valentine's Day Math Libs!

Another snow day here in small town Kentucky!  I have spent my snowy morning snuggling my little one and working on this Valentine's Day activity for my Math students.  I made a Math Libs activity for my students to practice Mean, Median, Mode, and Range at the beginning of the year; and they absolutely LOVED it!  (You can check it out here if you'd like)  I was trying to think of something for us to do on Valentine's day that they would enjoy, but would still have them practicing skills we have learned this year.  So, I decided to do a Valentine's Day themed Math Lib to review some of the most important things we have learned so far (Numerical Expressions, Place Value, Powers of 10, Decimals, and Fractions).

This is a centers-type activity, where students move to each group and solve a problem to fill in a blank of their Math Lib.  At the end of the activity, they will have solved a problem from each of the 5 categories.  I can't wait to hear the Valentine's Day love stories they end up with at the end of the activity! (The students love them because they are about teachers or adults in your building... in this case a male teacher in your building :)

You can click here to see more pictures and info about this product in my TpT store.  I am also going to give this activity away to the first follower to comment with their email address :)

Also, don't forget to enter to win a $10 TpT Gift Certificate, or your choice of any item in either of our TpT shops by clicking here!

Snow Day #6 for us and a Literacy Freebie

Well we are on snow day number 6 today due to black ice on the roads.  So now our three day weekend has now become a four day weekend.  Our school district has already taken away two days we were supposed to be closed in February so unless we have snow days we are in it for the long haul until Spring Break.  My 5th grade reading classes are working hard on text structures at the moment and I am fixing to use my first 5th grade unit that covers text structures and comparing them with a snow theme.  Click the pic below to check it out on TPT and purchase.
I will give this unit away to the second commenter!

Even though we are knee deep in informational text, I am continually trying to review Common Core Literature standards with my 5th graders.  So this little Valentine's Day Common Core Literacy Freebie is going to definitely come in handy for our review.  Hopefully you can find it useful too!  It includes a fictional passage, 5 question comprehension printable, and a figurative language printable.  Click the pic below to go pick this up for free in my store.

If you enjoy the freebie and our blog be sure to follow us on Bloglovin by clicking the button in the sidebar to the right.  Also we are hosting a giveaway for a $10 TPT gift card to one winner and a choice of a product from either of our stores to another lucky winner.  Click this picture below to go to the giveaway post to register.

Snow Day=MLK Day *Freebie*!

Hello blogger friends!  Melissa here!  It looks as though we are going to get a few extra days on our Christmas Break!  Only in Kentucky can it be 56 degrees yesterday at this time, and 4 degrees with a -15 degree wind chill today!  I can't say that I'm disappointed though!  Annie and I have made a New Year's Resolution to be diligent with our brand new blog!  I figured what better way to do that than with a brand spanking new freebie!

This is what I have been doing today :)

So, if you are looking for a quick and easy activity to celebrate MLK Day with your students, this is a very low-prep printable just for you :)  Just print the writing sheets for each of your students to fill in and decorate.  You can also use the cover sheet as a heading when you display your students' work!  The writing sheet contains a place for your students to put a quote from MLK, a place for them to write a dream of their own, who MLK was, and what he would think if he were still alive today.

You can click here to pick up this freebie!  If you like it, don't forget to follow our blog for other great ideas and freebies :)

A New Year and A New Blog

Hello Blogging World! We are officially back in 2014 with a new blog.  Melissa and I previously had a blog called Awesome in 1st that changed last year to Awesome in 1st & 5th since Melissa was moved to 5th grade.  This year I was moved to 5th grade as well so we thought it was time to begin a new blog to share our 5th grade adventure.  To start our year off we are linking up with Fifth in the Middle for her New Year's Blogging Resolutions.  See ours below and Happy New Year!
